Merritt Island Domestic Abuse Lawyers
Domestic violence is not just an issue between spouses. It includes any violence or threats of violence between members of a family or between people in a relationship, even those who do not live in the same house. Spouses, cohabitants, juveniles, girlfriends and boyfriends, and neighbors can all be charged with domestic violence.
At Caruso Swerbilow & Camerota PA, we represent people who are victims of domestic violence, as well as people who are charged with it. Our family law and criminal defense practices understand this issue from both sides. We know that it is a complex, emotional matter that can be devastating for everyone involved. Please call our office at 321-684-4815 for an appointment with our Brevard County domestic violence attorneys.
We Protect Your Rights
In Florida, victims of domestic violence may file a temporary petition for injunction for protection, also called a "restraining order," after just one incident. The injunction orders the alleged abuser to stop the violence or harassment and stay away from you, your home, work or school. In addition, the injunction can order temporary child custody, visitation, and child or spousal support.
There are also injunctions for protection against repeat violence, dating violence and sexual violence. Any of these petitions may be filed on behalf of a child under age 18 living at home. If an alleged abuser ignores an injunction, he or she can be arrested and charged with violating the order.
Both civil and criminal charges may be filed in cases of domestic violence. We know that sometimes people make false domestic abuse allegations to try to win divorce or custody cases. False accusations can damage your reputation and relationship with your children. If you need defense representation against these charges, we can help.
