Brevard County Weapons Charges Lawyers

Merritt Island Gun Crimes Lawyers

Florida takes weapons crimes very seriously. If you are charged with using a weapon in conjunction with another crime, the penalties for conviction may be especially severe. A weapons offense can increase the number of crime points assessed to determine sentencing, which may result in longer prison sentences.

At Caruso Swerbilow & Camerota PA, we understand the serious nature of weapons charges and we work hard to defend our clients against them. Our expert criminal defense attorney will investigate the circumstances of your case and explore all possible mitigating factors such as self defense. Please call our office at 321-684-4815 to schedule an appointment with our Brevard County weapons charges attorneys. Your consultation is free.

Weapons and Firearms Charges

Weapons charges may involve guns, knives, tasers, metal knuckles and clubs. Charges include:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Illegally discharging a firearm
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Brandishing a gun

If a weapon is used while committing a crime such as assault, robbery, a drug crime or a sex crime, the penalties for conviction of that crime are increased. Florida recently enacted a weapons enhancement law called 10-20-Life. It requires a mandatory prison sentence, including an additional 10 years for possessing a firearm, 20 years for firing a firearm, or 25 years to life in prison for wounding someone.

Using a weapon to defend yourself or others is allowed under Florida's Stand Your Ground law. If you used a weapon in self defense, we will attempt to get the charges reduced or dismissed.
